What kind of stories do you write?

I write an eclectic mix of rural, horror, folk and fantasy fiction set along shadowy back roads and in quaint small towns. I take seemingly ordinary situations and seed them with supernatural elements to grow a story the reader thinks about long after they've turned the last page.

What makes your stories distinctive?

My stories often start in seemingly familiar places, then twist into something unexpected. I’m interested in what happens when ordinary people meet unusual challenges, creatures, or face a warped reality. I enjoy putting myself in my character's heads and writing in their voices. Many of my stories fall into an unconventional niche. If people take a chance, they are usually entertained in a way they weren't expecting. That's important to me.

What can readers expect when they pick up your work?

Expect tension, mixed with wonder. If it's a horror story, I like to start out in a normal place that becomes eerie as you read. I like a big reveal. If it's fantasy, it leans cozy, but there are still creatures and difficult situations the main characters have to meet and overcome.

My new book, Cigar Box Saint, a supernatural adventure, is available now for preorder from Tiny Worlds Publishing! The book will be available December 4th--just in time for Christmas gift-giving. Many thanks to my editor, Ian Barr for his guidance and wonderful ability to ask the right questions, and to J. Curtis of Tiny Worlds for his patience, cover design, more patience, and too many other things to list.

They called him this year's friend. What they meant was bait.

All Kane Milo wanted was an honest summer gig and a fresh start. Traveling with a crew of nomadic twenty-somethings seems like the perfect escape from his rut. But beneath their easy smiles and late-night campfires lies a desperate , paralyzing terror.

They are harboring a deadly secret: a vengeful entity has stalked them across the country for years...and it's hungry.

Kane has nowhere to turn but his own rural roots. Hidden within his family's history are the tools and the folk magic required to fight back.

But surviving the summer means facing down a supernatural rage and making a choice that will cost him a piece of himself he can never get back.

Perfect for fans of Robert McCammon’s Boy’s Life, Stephen King’s The Body, and the eerie carnival chill of Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes. Cigar Box Saint is a dark Americana thriller about ancient curses, inherited folk magic, and the brutal cost of survival.

I hope you’ll give it a read. It’s a fun ride.
