Postcards #18 - Judderbones and Cigar Box Saint
Updated: Oct 3

October!
So happy we are entering fall-like weather now. It's still warm here, but the nights come sooner and the mornings are cool.
We have all but a few things moved, and we will likely get those things this weekend. Then a little clean-up and the move will be complete. It feels a little odd starting over in a new place. So many things and people to learn, but I feel hopeful. So far, everyone's been helpful and kind. I feel really lucky. Tired, but lucky.
What do you do this time of year? We have some decorations up for Halloween. When I can I like Halloween, Harvest/Thanksgiving, and Christmas to have their own months. I think I put up the kitchen decorations simply to get a box empty and out of the way. Now the outside box can be emptied. I'm not sure I remember what's in there.
Judderbones Coming Soon
I'm almost finished with Judderbones and will be releasing it the last week of October. This was a spur-of-the-moment book and decision, and I'll likely regret not giving it more build-up, but once it's out, no reason I can't talk it up. There doesn't seem to be a "best practices" for me for marketing. I will just keep trying. I depend on word-of-mouth as much as anything. I hope you will give it a try.
What is Judderbones about?
Wally is saving every penny so he can leave his little town of Conroy. He works his shift at the tie treating plant and goes home to play with his dog.
When the night watchman, Old Clayton, is brutally murdered in a way no one can fathom, the plant takes on a dangerous feel.
His boss is a jerk and demands that Wally work a few shifts. What could go wrong?
Darla writes for the local paper and she's tired of covering fairs and padding obituaries. She has big dreams. A murder could launch her career and get her to a big newspaper. She's going to get to the bottom of who or what is lurking at the plant.
A stressed-out Sheriff, a befuddled coroner and hunters from the state are in for a surprise. No one could have imagined what they are up against.
And Judderbones? Judderbones has secrets.
Look for it on Gimmebook.com and other bookseller sites soon.
Cigar Box Saint will debut December 4th, 2026 through Tiny World Publishing. I imagine there will be preorders available--the e-book through Gimmebook, and the paperback through the Tiny Worlds site. The focus at TWP is on physical books and offerings. I'm excited to see what comes together for Cigar Box Saint.
What's Cigar Box Saint about ?
When Kane Milo falls in with a group of people hunted by their past, nothing is as it seems. When he learns about his family's history, his dreams and visions suddenly make sense.
Lies, betrayal and secrets have left a friend dead. Kane realizes not only may he be next, he's the only one who can see the way out.
This is a story about family and friendship, finding your path, sacrifice and bravery. And love. My horror always includes some sort of love, even if it's muddy.
If you enjoy books like Boy's Life by Robert McCammon, The Body by Stephen King or Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, you'll probably like Cigar Box Saint, too.
More soon,
Lyndsey

Come sit a spell.
My stories rise up from many places: my family history and how I grew up, the places I've lived and the woods I've walked.
My characters are smart, tough people who find themselves in impossible situations in shadowy places that shouldn't exist. Places I try to make seem possible. It's a challenge I truly enjoy. I hope you will, too.
Thanks so much for reading!
Lyndsey
